Max doesn’t take kindly to being called the “Al Roker” of Gastonia. (“I know who that is, dad. Don’t call me that.”) But his fear, ahem, fascination, of the 5-day forecast had us thinking that outdoor sports (read: soccer!) was a thing of the past. Enter weatherman Larry Sprinkle, Charlotte’s longtime meteorologist who we called on a whim; he gladly agreed to give Max a pep talk. “When I was your age, I was fascinated with lightning, too,” Sprinkle told Max, who peppered his teacher-for-the-day with questions about thunder and elves (who knew?). “I learned that if you hear thunder and see lightning, you should go inside,” said Max, now a Sprinkle-appointed “junior weather watcher.” Thanks to Sprinkle, the forecast is looking ... bright.
