When
The Announcement flashed across the screen (
CNN, of course) that Barack Obama would be next President, the phone ran off the hook. Heather's aunt uttered, "Thank you, Jesus! I'm 73 ... and never thought I'd live to see this day." My Dad beamed with pride ... Michael Laing, my friend who now lives in Hawaii (and this Blog's most loyal reader), cried like a baby. Like a lot of us, I too never thought I'd see this day in my lifetime. Seriously, I never even
thought this day would ever come -- because it never
ever crossed my mind. Imagine the story I will tell Max and Marco tomorrow morning: Paleontologist? Professional soccer player? Dude, you can be anything. Even President. Barack Obama is Exhibit A. --Mark
To that I would only add that dreams are funny things. They have this crazy way of living on, long after the dreamer sometimes. Sometimes they grow bigger than the dreamer could ever have imagined. So, yeah, Max and Marco dreamed right through the actual event. We tried so hard to wake them, shake them to get them up and let them know that the dream is real. They didn't budge. Neither one of them. But for all we know, they knew it already, long before their heads hit the pillow. Who knows what's going through their heads right now. No doubt, some combination of Bakugan, Transformers, Ben 10, Barack and other superheroes, you know?

My mother has been trying -- with no luck -- to sign in and leave a comment on the blog since we created it over a year ago. We can put a man on the moon...we can elect a Black president, but we can't get Louise a username and password. One day, Mom...one day.
Anyway, here is the comment she would like to leave today, post-election 2008:
"okay - that's it! will somebody please give me some tissues!!! My heart is heavy for more reasons than you can imagine. To see Max and Marco... and to talk to Brittany as the results were coming in and hear her scream and be excited with joy... and to hear the hope in her voice was more than PopPop and Mom Mom could stand last night. I feel empowered today, inspired and I FEEL LIKE GOING ON..."
